At Joyful Yoga,
we introduce our students to a kind and gentle
way of rediscovering their bodies through an intelligent
sequence of poses designed to work with all stages
of life experience. No matter how long it has
been since you have had a true “inner body
experience”, we promise you will be able
to make it through a class feeling better than
when you came in!
If you can breathe, you can practice
Yoga. The first guideline in Yoga is non-violence,
or ahimsa, meaning “there is nothing to
gain through pain or strain”. We practice
this concept first and foremost in our teachings.
It may seem quite obvious, since Yoga is supposed
to FEEL GOOD…however, it has been our experience
through our decades of practice in various places
across the country, as well as from the stories
our students have shared, that in fact, not all
Yoga is created equal.
Our approach to Yoga is non-dogmatic,
since we believe everyone is unique and will be
attracted to different paths, one approach or
lineage does not always meet each individual’s
needs. Unfortunately, some styles of Yoga may
be more concerned with passing down a lineage,
a one-way approach to Yoga, without a lot of room
for the student to discover what really feels
good to them. Often, this will scare new students
away or cause more harm than good.
We have designed our Joyful Flow
to incorporate the best of the best, realizing
there is something amazing to experience with
each style of Yoga out there. This can be achieved
without making you feel intimidated or overly
concerned with how you look in a pose, or doing
it “right”, that will improve with
practice over time, meanwhile, it is our wish
to hold a space for students to explore their
inner landscape, see where they have been and
decide where they wish to go. As a student steps
onto the mat, they are invited back to health
and well-being, reconnecting to the inner strength,
stability and joy in their lives.
Joyful Yoga is a combination
of linking movement with breath (Vinyasa flow)
as well as alignment (Iyengar) and longer holds
for deeper connective tissue release (Yin). We
also combine the energizing and detoxifying techniques
of Kundalini Yoga to maintain an overall state
of balance. We have had the opportunity to study
with the greatest Yoga teachers in the World and
it is our pleasure and honor to bring the gifts
these many styles of Yoga have to offer to our
students in one great class.
We also incorporate the principles
of Yoga’s sister science, Ayurveda into
our classes, helping students understand what
helps them stay balanced on and off the yoga mat.
Yoga is more than just physical, it is a therapy
in and of itself. It is a practice geared toward
maintenance and prevention, allowing you to come
into balance before illness and dis-ease become
part of your experience. You do not need to be
in shape, or flexible to begin your Yoga practice.
With time, flexibility of both mind and body are
achieved, you just have to be willing to journey
inward and discover what it takes to feel whole
again. Life is an adventure, open yourself to
the flow of Joy from within. Feel Good Now.
